Kristi’s 101 Prayers for Military Wives comes from the depths of her experience and her heart. As the wife of a Navy sailor, Kristi encountered the ever-changing, frequently moving, quickly bonding lifestyle of those in the military. She also knows the loneliness, feelings of inadequacy and days of despair that come to military wives facing a lot on their own. She address all these needs and challenges in her book, writing prayers that talk to God about these unique situations.
Kristi has written for a number of magazines, online publications, and blogs, including Focus on the Family Magazine, Woman’s World, Today’s Christian Living, Crosswalk.com, iBelieve.com, BibleStudyTools.com, and Chicken Soup for the Soul®. Her message always contains a theme for those in the military.
My boyfriend loved it and got compliments on it.
I have bought 4 of these so far as gifts. They are great devotional and the book is extremely well made.
Filled with prayers by a retired military wife for active-duty military wives, this little book fills an important niche. The author intimately knows the needs of military families and her short prayers focus on those needs, health for both husband and wife, work, neighbors, forgiveness, etc. Each prayer is introduced with a scripture verse. "101 Prayers for Military Wives" would make a lovely gift for a military wife you know.
101 Prayers for Military Wives is a thoughtful gift book for the military wife in your life. The author has compiled lovely topical prayers to lift the spirits and help redirect the heart and eyes to "Our faithful God who stands at the helm."
My husband loves this. He uses it daily. It arrived on time a promised.
This is an incredible book for those who are grieving. I give them as gifts and have used it with clients as a therapist. Highly recommend!
I have read this book and it brings goose bumps, relief, comfort and time to reflect with hope as you realize you are not alone in the journey of grief. The depths that a reached in this book provide the expressions to the feelings that have been felt but not able to be put into words. I keep this book on hand to give to others who are grieving or have had reason to grieve in the past. To not buy this book is to do yourself a disservice at a time when you need to be cared for. This book is special and has been received with great joy and many thanks from those I have gifted it to. I am very thankful for this author for writing this book and sharing her journey so others too can navigate this area with a guide of sorts.
I'm a huge fan of this author. He did this book well. I highly recommend it for every Christian. The pages are easy reading and understanding. He gives references to the Bible and asks questions to ponder. It also makes a great biblical reference for life's concerns that arise.
I received this book as a gift. It was very special to me and I was really enjoying it until Jan 18/19 gets into racial guilt. I refuse to be guilty for how God made me and I refuse to chose my friends based on their skin pigmentation. This was really disappointing, I'm not sure if I will finish the devotional. Because of these 2 pages I would NOT recommend this book.
I have been following and reading Boyd's devotions for about 20 years now. So excited to have the new leather bound daily devotional for men! It is so good I am buying more to give as gifts!
Boyd Bailey has done it again. This beautifully bound anthology of daily wisdom devotionals is wonderful and includes 365 of Boyd’s best. An example from Today’s reading really encouraged me, “Learn your lessons from the Lord, during stressful situations, and leave it with him to educate others in what needs to be done.” GDWFM is eloquently written but not pretentious or unapproachable. Packed with practicality, these modern proverbs will bless the reader. This beautifully bound book feels great in your hand and will be a gift that anyone would be proud to give and privileged to receive.
Amazing devotional book - no matter where you are in your walk with Jesus - old or new; Mr. Bailey writes and explains it beautifully, with scripture as reference. Highly recommend!!! Love the new look, larger print and beautifully crafted! I’ve purchased many of his first 365 devotional for friends, my wife and daughter as well- very impactful book!
Great for any mom. nice short readings but with a strong message
Pastor Boyd and team: Thank you for lovingly writing this devotional of Wisdom just for men. I purchased a copy for my husband and another one for our 18 year old son who will be heading to college in a few weeks for the 1st time. I have followed Wisdom Hunters Devotional emails for many years and appreciate how Holy Spirit uses you, Shana and team to minister his truth to us all daily. May His grace, wisdom, peace and protection cover you always. In Christ appreciation, Sabrina Villemenay
Got it for a wedding gift. They loved it! It’s a great way to spend time with each other. I would recommend it.
Within Kristi's book, we find short, powerful prayers. My family has several military wives and this little book will head out to them for gifts. Kristi understands this life of sacrifice they live. She offers prayers that meet them right where they are. I'm so thankful for this resource!
I’m only half-way done with 101 Prayers for Military Wives by Kristi Woods, but I’ve read enough to highly recommend this book—and not only to military wives but to all who would like to pray for military wives they know or give them the book as a gift. Woods writes from years of experience as a military wife so the prayers are filled with spot-on insight into the needs and struggles of these special women. The prayers reflect her openness and vulnerability in sharing as she seeks to minister to women who are now living the life she lived for years. With this book, women will be led to draw close to God and tell him what’s on their hearts. I’m using the book to pray for a military wife I know whose husband is deployed and I also gifted her with a copy. In fact, anyone could use this book to pray for military wives in general. You wouldn’t have to know one personally—it could be a way to support all military families on active duty. Thank you, Kristi Woods, for writing such a wonderful—and life-changing—resource!
Every mother (every woman in general) should read this book. Deals lovingly with so many difficult issue. It made me a better person. Bought one as a Christmas present for my daughter and future daughter-in-law. I had planned to give my daughter the copy she gave me when she was a teenager but found I could not part with it.
This little book is so stunning and a perfect size to put in your Bible or purse or car and remember to pray for the wives and families who sacrificing everything for our freedom. Words cannot express how grateful I am that I have this book to know just what to say to God to pray for women who are serving in such courageous ways!
Great daily devotional. Written solely for mothers in mind. Great start to each morning. Highly recommend.
I absolutely love the short but powerful prayers in this book. The photo doesn’t do justice to the beauty of what it looks holding the physical copy in your hands:) It’s gorgeous! And the beautiful cover is a wonderful reflection of the beautiful prayers it contains! 101 Prayers for Military Wives would be the perfect gift for military wives, and also the perfect guide for those who love and support them. I highly recommend it.
Kristi knows the struggles and stresses of being a military spouse. This book is filled with practical and powerful prayers founded from scripture for the military wife. 101 Prayers for the Military Wife is the perfect size to slip into a backpack, care package or the pocket of your car door to take with you. I bought one for my daughter and daughter-in-law who are both military spouses. I'm so grateful for this needed resource!
This book is a beautiful, hope-filled resource for wives in any season of their military family's journey. It would make the perfect gift for someone who needs a reminder that God is faithful through all the ups and downs of military life. The prayers are short but filled with practical encouragement and life-giving words. Highly recommend!
This book is packed with powerful prayers and Scriptural encouragement for the brave women who are sacrificing so much in their service. If you are a military spouse -- or if you have a friend or loved one who is -- this resource will be incredibly life-giving. God arms us with strength as we pray His Word, and these prayers penned by Kristi Woods will help bring courage and wisdom to those who need it most. I love how Kristi, a former military spouse, has written these from her first-hand experience as a woman who has fought the good fight and knows her power comes from her Heavenly Father.
I bought this as a gift fir a new mom to help her feel good and get centered.
It is so relaxing to read but with her knowledge of quotes from the Bible it really hits home
Fantastic devo for quick time with the Lord or on the go! Karen writes honestly and non-judgemental. Check out her other books she’s got a great resource through Birds on a Wire and a fantastic podcast called Wire Talk!
Love this book! I bought this one for my mother in law & she loves it too! Came quickly & she said it was in great shape & easy to read.
Great devotion for Mamas of all ages and stages! Godly wisdom from down to earth Mama. Will be my go to gift for new Mamas.
This book became my companion after losing my Mum to cancer in 2014. I didn't finish reading many books I bought during that time. I couldn't concentrate for long. But Kate's book was different. In her lyrical prose and vivid imagery, Kate gave the pain locked up inside of me a voice. The Scriptural gems dispersed through each letter also filled me with renewed hope and comfort, each time I lingered. I kept returning to read and reread her beautiful and uplifting words. Now, in this new format with journaling space, Kate's book offers even more support for the grieving. What I love is that her words don't push you to process in a particular way, nor do they judge you. Rather, they illustrate the very real struggles we all walk through in unique ways, which cannot be pressed into a predictable mould. As Kate puts it near the end of her book, grief is a strange creature: "Just when we think we've figured out your routine, you change your patterns, throw a tantrum, learn a new trick. You grow into new phases, develop and change with the pages on the calendar. You clamber underfoot, tugging on pant legs until we trip over you, scold you, and apologize."
No matter what experience you have with grief personally you can relate to the various letters found within. Kate deals respectfully with a tough topic. The writing itself is beautiful as Kate uses literary devices to bring forth vivid imagery displaying the potency of language and the usefulness of expressing yourself through it. Kate handled the topic well, displaying the constancy of grief for a lifetime, but even more importantly, the hope we have in Christ and the promise of eternity rid of grief and other remnants of sin. We clearly see the place of grief in this life while being reminded of the hope for believers. I particularily like the journal pages in the paperback where readers can process through their personal situation. I would reccomend this book for everyone.
My friend Kate Motaung published this book of poetry when her mother died from cancer, which she also chronicles in her memoir, A Place to Land. Sometimes poetry is the best language for capturing deep feelings, because it distills our thoughts into concrete images. Her brief poems will resonate with you if you are grieving right now. Even if you have not experienced a literal death, you may be saddled with grief from a living death in our uncertain times. This book can serve as a call to prayer, which will strengthen your faith and resolve. A beautiful song of hope is threaded through this brief book, which I recommend to you. I received a preview copy of Letters to Grief from the author.
Kate does a great job of writing out her letters to grief. This is a book, I bought two, I like to have on hand just in case I need to send one out to a grieving loved one. Easy to read and great to use as a gift of blessing.
We love it. It’s a great way to start our day before all of the craziness of our daily lives.
These verses and prayers are a meaningful way for couples to begin each day.
Needed this book to connect with my husband. Good for newly married or any couple looking to grow closer to Christ.
Love these prayers. Great for dating couples also.
I purchase this book over and over as gifts for my friends who are moms and it is especially nice to include in baby shower gifts. The author has nailed the biblical encouragement for moms to children of all ages and provides often needed refocusing above the chaos in a short and easy daily message. Love it!
Karen is such a great presenter and the book reflects her personality. The devotions provide peace.
Touching and visually inspiring. I love the way Kate finds beauty in her sadness. She treats it as an unexpected stranger and at times, a friend. She writes deeply about the different emotions that filled her own heart through her grief. Helpful and comforting for anyone navigating these emotions.
How can I read this book with its so-personal feelings and insights into grief? It hurt -- for you see, just 3 weeks ago our daughter died a sudden death, only 42 years old, to viral pneumonia. So fast -- within 12 hours of being taken to emergency. My wife and I couldn't even get there in time to say "good-bye" -- yet through grief and hope we always will have her with us. The author's hope is that my heart would resonate with her sentiments. So poetic, so in-the-heart, so hopeful but also realistic. The author's hope is that through her letters to grieving readers, they would find "encouragement and hope." But I know there's no magic, no shortening of the process of grieving. Time may not heal. But I treasure this grief, as the author does also. I understand it's because God brought into my life a precious daughter whom I love and always will. Thanks so much, Kate, for sharing your heart. Just by doing that you do bring me hope and a measure of comfort. Our God is using your honesty expressed so movingly, without being maudlin. Thank you.
Kate's words ring honest throughout this book, and you'll find yourself immersed, flipping through page after page, unable to stop reading her letters to grief. Her deeply personal experiences cry out from every page of this book, and yet it seems like something that was written personally, for me. Grief is a multifaceted, complex process that greets each person different, and yet Kate's letters sound like a cry from my own heart, not just her own. The best part of this book is the hope woven throughout. In the end, grief will have no hold. Kate faces grief head-on in this book, and yet she knows who will win out in the end. It's a beautiful message of hope and endurance.
"Letters to Grief" is thoughtfully, vulnerably, and beautifully written. Through the letters in this book, Kate shares her personal journey with grief and captures well how it isn't something we simply "get over" with time. Rather, it's a life-long companion that lingers, at times stronger and more painful than others, and changes us as it does. If you are walking through grief personally or now someone who is and struggle to understand what they're feeling, this book is a helpful read.
Kristi started blogging in 2010 when stationed in Hawaii with her husband, a Navy sailor. She started with family news, mostly to relate their family adventures to extended family back home. Over time, spiritual themes and insights inched into her writing.
I’ve taken flying lessons and solo-flown an airplane!
