Boyd Bailey has led a passionate career in ministry, executive coaching, and mentoring for over 30 years. After becoming a Christian in college, he attended Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth and began journaling regularly. In 1989, he moved to Atlanta to work with Dr. Charles Stanley. Then in 2004, he began emailing daily devotionals to his small group. From there he founded Wisdom Hunters, Inc., now reaching over 100,000 people in 86 countries with his daily devotionals, blog, and devotional books.
Over the past decade, he has written 500-word reflections daily. He also co-founded a consulting non-profit, Ministry Ventures, which has coached over 1,000 leaders in fundraising, board development, and more. He currently serves as the president of the Georgia division of the National Christian Foundation, helping Christians maximize their giving.
Boyd is the author of our God’s Daily Wisdom For Men devotional, as well the co-author with Pat Elsberry of Comforted by God: 100 Days of Healing and Hope for the Grief Journey.
Boyd and his wife, Rita, live in Roswell, Georgia. They enjoy hiking, reading, traveling, and spending time with their family. The couple has four adult daughters, and “Boyd is the best girl-daddy ever,” as Rita says. Additionally, they have 12 beloved grandchildren.
He had a truck washing business that paid his and Rita’s ways through college.
Through health challenges, Boyd has grown in his love for the Lord and understands his compassion and long-suffering at a deeper level.
Boyd grew up with a single mom who was raising three boys. His own father had left when he was just five years old, so Rita’s family impacted him. “Love was their evangelism,” Boyd explains. He started dating Rita his senior year of high school, and her dad said he had to go to church. He heard a sermon that told him something he’d never heard before: “You have a Heavenly Father who loves you.” Boyd now loves to invest in his own family as a father and grandfather.
Boyd’s passion is talking to men about wisdom, because “Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Cor. 1:24). The closer we come to Christ, the more we have access to wisdom. The intimacy and time we invest with him leads to greater wisdom.
As Boyd says, “When I read Mere Christianity, I felt I was loving God with my mind; Augustine’s Confessions, loving God with my heart; Nouwen, Beloved, loving God with my soul.”
